Somehow, both Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber — Selena Gomez's ex-best friend and ex-boyfriend, respectively — ended up on the cover of this month's Complex. They both also ended up discussing their similarly public break-ups with Selena, though one relationship was obviously platonic and the other was a lot more serious than that.

While Justin opened up a whole lot, comparing their romance to a marriage and baring his soul about how in love they were, Demi was a little less forthcoming.

You and Selena Gomez used to be close, but you’ve had some ups and downs over the years. Are you talking anymore?

Nope.

Does it have anything to do with a particular relationship choice of hers?

Not really. Not anymore.

On Demi's 23rd birthday in August, the two briefly tweeted back and forth. "I'm so grateful you were born," Selena said to Demi, adding the hashtags #nomatterwhat, #forever, and #haveTHEbestbday. "I'm glad you were born too..." Demi replied, adding #nomatterwhat, #forever, and because emoji is our second national language, included a bunch of cartoonish hearts.

Lots and lots of warm fuzzies followed, because fans believed we were witnessing the reunion of Disney's coolest power couple. Alas, the singer confirms, that's just not the case. Maybe Demi doesn't count tweeting as talking, or perhaps they haven't communicated since then, but "nope" means nope.

The reporter was, of course, referencing Justin Bieber when asking about Selena's "particular relationship choice," which she later pressed Demi on. "He’s actually a nice guy," she said. "I don’t really know him that well, but he seems to have grown up. He looks like he’s maturing. But, you know, when you’re young and you get older, you change and people change. You have things in common, and then all of a sudden, you don’t. It’s just a part of life."

She was much more interested in talking about her upcoming album that former friends (who can blame her?), and when asked about the edgiest song on the record, she brought some of her characteristic candidness to the interview: "I think 'Waiting for Ya' is a pretty ballsy song. I’m excited for people to hear it, too because that’s the song where I show you that a lot of people have their cute little feuds in public, but I don’t really have those because if you want to have a feud, you can just come to me in person and we’ll settle it."

Demi Lovato is not here for your feuds. Can't we all just be friends?
